Save the Parks

It is so important to preserve the amazing nature of the United States. These national parks are historic lanDs that are home to 10,000s of wildlife species. These national parks are also protected for the enjoyment of the millions of visitors that they get each year. So how can we make sure that we are protecting the parks? You can help to preserve them, even from your own home.

Looking for ways you can help? Here are some ideas!

Support strong climate change goals

Climate change is the biggest threat to national parks. You can do your part by protecting the earth and these parks by voting for environmental protection policies and contacting your local representatives. A resolution in Congress would “meaningfully address this crisis by establishing a national goal to protect and restore 30% of U.S. lands and oceans by 2030, including lands adjacent to many national parks.” If climate change continues and nothing is done, every park will be affected—Glacier and Saguaro will disappear, there will be 100s of more wildfires every year, and seashores will erode from rising tides.

Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle!

Do your part to conserve the environment! By following the 3R’s we can conserve natural resources, landfill space and energy.

Here are some tips to help stay green. Check out this website:

Save Water

It may seem like there is an unlimited amount of water considering you can turn on the faucet whenever you like, but clean water is not an never ending resource. Pay attention to your water usage. Take shorter showers and turn of the water when not using it. 70% of water use is from your bathroom. Try shortening your shower by a minute or two, “you can reduce your water usage by up to 150 gallons a month.”

Calculate your Carbon Footprint

Calculating your carbon footprint is a good place to start when trying to protect the environoment. You may just think you are one person who doesn’t make much of an impact. But one person can do a lot of good…or bad. This might make you realize that you need to make some changes. Check it out here: www.doyourpartparks.org

Support a Non-Profit

There are tons of places and organizations that you can donate to or volunteer at. You can make a difference! Try reaching out to local non-profit who help fight climate change or national park protection organization.
